Oahu Grocery Stores: 4 Reasons you should Choose Whole Foods

by Amy Anne

Have you ever asked yourself, “Which of the Oahu grocery stores has the best prices?” I have. In Hawaii, groceries are expensive and I wanted to make sure I was getting my money’s worth and at the same time putting good food into my body. In addition, I wanted to focus on contactless grocery delivery to keep safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, I decided to look at the different grocery store in Oahu and compare their costs.

For each store, I built the same basket from a set grocery list. After that, I finalized the cart and took some screenshots.  Below you can see the final results of each cart and the individual item prices for each store. For example, this is the grocery list I used to build my cart at each store:

4 Reasons Whole Foods Beats other Oahu Grocery Stores

When I think about grocery shopping, I’m not just thinking about cost. Above all, I want the best food for my body! Not only does Whole Foods grocery delivery check these boxes, but there are other reasons why I feel this is the best option for grocery delivery on Oahu.

Reason 1 - Whole Foods + Prime is Actually Cheaper!

Firstly, when most people consider shopping at Whole Foods, they think, “that’s the grocery store for rich people.” However, Whole Foods grocery prices are actually cheaper or comparable to other Oahu supermarkets. In addition, Prime Members get additional discounts at Whole Foods, including:

  • 10% off storewide sales (except alcohol)
  • Prime Member only special discounts
  • Primer Member only seasonal sales

Reason 2 - Other Oahu Grocery Stores have less Organic

People now demand affordable organic food. Consequently, the days of super expensive organic food are coming to an end. So, as more people demand organic products, large supermarkets are responding in order to compete. Power to the masses! Moreover, Whole Foods has always been at the forefront of providing high quality, organic food.

Similarly, the Whole Foods 365 brand organic products are comparable or cheaper than non-organic products. No more worrying, “Do I spend the extra money to buy the organic version?” On the other hand, Whole Foods makes the choice simple because the organic items often are the most affordable or just slightly higher in price!

Reason 3 - FREE Grocery Delivery

In addition, as a Prime Member, not only are you getting discounted prices at Whole Foods, but you get free delivery on all your grocery deliveries. Most importantly, this makes grocery shopping soooooo much more convenient (and safe during COVID times):

  • Avoid crowded grocery stores
  • No standing in line
  • Have groceries delivered any time you’re free

Reason 4 - Other Amazon Prime Benefits

At the time this article was published, the Amazon Prime membership cost is $12.99/month. In other words, having this membership just to get the free weekly grocery delivery is worth it. But once you have the Prime membership, there are many other benefits you get!

FREE Shipping on most Amazon Orders

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, stores have shut down, items are out of stock, and it’s generally unsafe to go into public areas. As a result, sales on Amazon.com have skyrocketed. With Amazon Prime many products you order on Amazon.com, not just groceries from Whole Foods, will have free shipping!

FREE Music on Amazon Prime Music

Further, with your Amazon Prime membership, you have free access to a huge audio library from Prime Music. For instance, Prime Music features over 2 million songs, podcasts, and more than a thousand playlists and Stations programmed by Amazon’s music experts at no additional cost!

FREE Movies on Amazon Prime Video

During this pandemic, we’ve been glued to the couch or cuddled up in bed with our favorite pajamas and orange tabby. As a result, we’ve spent more money to binge, save, tag, and set alerts for more movies and shows than ever before. On the other hand, every Amazon Prime membership gives you FREE access to Prime Video where you can view movies and shows, including the top-rated horror film “Killer Sofa.”

Not Just a Selfish Plug of Amazon

To sum up, my main goal with this article is to share my experience using Amazon Prime for Whole Foods grocery delivery. If you happen to sign up for Amazon Prime as a result of clicking one of my links, then I may receive a small referral commission. However, this isn’t just a selfish plug for Amazon. I use my Prime membership daily to order cat food, furniture, dish soap, clothes, groceries, and more. Here is a screenshot of my last three months of Amazon activity, 43 orders! In other words, it really is a great and convenient service!
